Camping in Tochigi

I went camping with Pete, Nichole, Roy, John, and Wendy this past weekend. Tent-squatting snakes and frigid water notwithstanding, it was a great time. Probably the snake and the frigid water made it more interesting anyway! But I'll leave that for another time. I'm still tired and want to go to bed.

Some of the pictures are a little blurry or strange, but that's just a result of the camerawoman not knowing how my camera works. Good try Wendy! ;)

OMG that looks gorgeous. But it was cold? Dang I would have loved to swim in that. The snake - I would have freaked out! Happy 4th. Hopefully I will get to see you in a few weeks!

Snake follow-up:
We set up the giant 18,000 person tent earlier in the day, but didn't put any of our sleeping stuff in it. After an evening of tending the fire and cooking "silver turtles" (chunks of meat, seasoning, and veggies all wrapped in foil and stuffed into the fire) I went into the empty tent to set up the ground padding. There was a large lump under the tent and I thought to myself "gee, I don't remember there being a rock that size when we set up the tent." Naturally I poked it, and it was soft and moved. In the manliest show of courage, I shrieked like a high-school girl ... and poked it again.

Sure enough, my visions of a bigass snake turned out to be correct. The antics of pushing the stubborn snake out from under the tent and then getting it to leave the camping area altogether involved the entire crew, nearly a half-hour of time, and a good load of drama. He (?) was about three feet long, and part of his tail was missing, so he should've been longer! But my guess is that he was just a glorified garden snake.
